It must be filled to at least 3 inches from the top of the filling neck. Use a tape measure if you can’t visually check the oil level. Add 20W50 motor oil if needed and be sure to not overfill.

Oil is used in the hydraulic drive system by Scaggs for 20W-50 motor oil. There is no 20W-50 “hydraulic” oil available. The 20W-50 synthetic motor oil I use on my Scag is not recommended, but I have switched to synthetic motor oil in the hydraulic drive systems on other brands of machines, such as the ZTR and GT.
