A few different types of blood glucose tests are used. Fasting blood sugar (FBS) measures blood glucose after you have not eaten for at least 8 hours. It is often the first test done to check for prediabetes and diabetes. Random blood sugar (RBS) measures blood glucose regardless of when you last ate.
What is the normal range of RBS in mmol L?
A blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) is normal. A reading of more than 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) after two hours indicates diabetes. A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L and 11.0 mmol/L) indicates prediabetes.
When should RBS be taken?
Unlike normal blood tests, RBS can be done any time of the day and is usually carried out when a person requires a speedy diagnosis. Other alternatives to RBS include Tolerance Test and Fasting Blood Sugar Test. RBS is one of the first tests to check for diabetes.
What is BT test?
The Bleeding and Clotting time test refers to a test that is performed on a sample of blood to measure the time taken for it to clot or coagulate. This test is also known as the BT CT test.
Can RBS detect diabetes?
Interpreting results of RBS test
The amount of glucose in a person’s blood is measured in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL). A result of 200 mg/dL or above for a random glucose test indicates that a person may have diabetes.
What is dangerously low blood sugar?
Blood sugar below 55 mg/dL is considered severely low. You won’t be able to treat it using the 15-15 rule. You also may not be able to check your own blood sugar or treat it by yourself, depending on your symptoms.
Is blood sugar of 135 high?
Less than 100 mg/dL = normal. Between 110–125 mg/dL = impaired fasting glucose (i.e., prediabetes) Greater than 126 mg/dL on two or more samples = diabetes.
What is RBS range?
RBS test done within one or two hours of eating then the RBS normal value should be 180 mg/dl as per the American Diabetes Association and the RBS normal range should be anywhere between 80 mg/dl and 130 mg/dl prior to eating for healthy blood sugar levels in the body.
Is RBS 140 normal?
Normal: less than 140 mg/dl. Prediabetes: 140–199 mg/dl. Diabetes: 200 mg/dl or above.
What is RBS test in pregnancy?
Random blood sugar (RBS).
It measures blood glucose regardless of when you last ate. Several random measurements may be taken throughout the day.
What happens if FBS is high?
High levels of fasting blood sugar suggest the body was not able to lower blood sugar levels. This points to insulin resistance, inadequate insulin production, or in some cases, both. Very low blood sugar levels may indicate that diabetes medications are lowering the blood sugar too much.
