Inside mount blinds are often flush with the window’s opening and do not cover up the trim. Outside mount window treatments can be mounted on the face of window trim or on the wall above the window. It does not mean the blind is installed outdoors.
Can I mount blinds on window trim?
You can mount your blinds to the trim as long as it is flat and meets the minimum requirements for an outside mount. Mounting on the trim of the window is the easiest route because all you need to collect is the size of the trim dimensions.
What is the difference between inside and outside mount blinds?
As opposed to inside mount when the coverings are mounted inside the window frame, outside mount is mounted on the wall above the window and directly on the trim. Because of this the blinds or shades will need to be wider than your window opening.
Should your blinds match your trim?
And since most blinds fit inside the trim, they generally should match or be slightly darker than the trim. If you currently have white blinds or window treatments, wood blinds will of course look darker but won’t necessarily darken the room unless all the walls are dark, too.
Can you hang Roman shades outside window?
Roman Shades may be mounted inside or outside the window frame. When ordering your window blind of choice, make sure you specific the correct option that best fits your application. You will need at least 1 inch of window frame depth to mount roman shades although at least 3 inches will be needed for a flush mount.
Can you mount blinds from the top?
Ceiling mount blinds and shades must be attached to the top of the window frame and therefore cannot be installed in arch top windows. Window shades such as roller shades, honeycomb cell shades and others come standard with top mount brackets.
Do Roman blinds look better inside or outside recess?
In summary. In summary, for Venetian, roller and vertical blinds, we would recommend they be hung from within the recess. However, Roman blinds would be better suited outside the recess, as they are able to let more light enter into the room.
What does outside Mount mean?
An outside mount covers the entire outside of the window frame and can fit either closely to the outside window frame or you can choose to extend the perimeter of the window because you want to add the illusion of a bigger window or more space or height.
How wide should outside mount blinds be?
We recommend going at least 2″ wider than the opening on either side, so 4″ total. For the height, go about 3 inches above the window trim (to allow for the mounting brackets) and measure from that point down to the window sill.
