Apply an Epoxy Bond. If the hole is small enough, you can use epoxy to seal the leak. Wrap it with Exhaust Tape. An exhaust tape is an ideal solution if you are dealing with a larger hole. Use an Exhaust Clamp. Cover the Hole with an Aluminum Patch.
Does JB Weld work on catalytic converters?
Will J-B Weld work on an automotive exhaust? Because of the extreme temperatures of exhaust systems, we do not recommend J-B Weld for use on exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. Nor do we recommend the product for repairs within the combustion chamber.
Is it better to weld or clamp exhaust?
When making a decision on whether to use exhaust clamps or welding to fix your exhaust pipe, we recommend using clamps to connect your exhaust system, whether it’s new or you’re making repairs to a damaged one.
Can you patch an exhaust leak?
Small cracks or pinholes can be sealed using just epoxy or exhaust tape, but larger holes will need a patch. If the leak is a thin crack or small hole, you can proceed without purchasing or making a patch to help. If the hole is larger, you will need a patch as well as epoxy.
Can you weld exhaust with a stick welder?
Due to its thinness, MIG welding is recommended for repairing an exhaust pipe. However, sometimes you may not have an MG welder around. Also, the exhaust pipe may be too dirty for a MIG welder. Thankfully, it is possible to stick weld an exhaust pipe.
