Once the dye powder is mixed with water it should be used within 3 days for the best, brightest results but some colors work fine for up to 2 weeks. If the dyes are combined with soda ash, they weaken FAST – they may last for an hour or so – again each color is different.

How do you use Dharma fiber reactive dye?
Step by Step Instructions:
Pre-Wash your fabric. Dissolve your dye. Pour the required amount of the Non-Iodized Salt* into the dye bath (1 cup/gallon of water for most colors except Blacks (for blacks, use 1.5 to 2 cups salt/gal of water). Add the Soda Ash. Rinse & wash out excess dye.

What happens if you use tie-dye after 72 hours?
Do not add water to dye until you are prepared to apply it. Apply dye within 24 hours after mixing. Dye left unapplied after 24 hours will begin to lose concentration and will result in noticeably weaker color intensity.
Does vinegar set procion dye?
The best dyes to use for tie-dye are the fiber reactive dyes, such as Procion MX dyes. These dyes are set at a high pH, by pre-soaking in soda ash mixed with water. Vinegar has a low pH and will neutralize the soda ash, preventing the dye from setting.

Can you tie-dye 50 cotton 50 Polyester?
Can I tie dye fabric that is 50% cotton and 50% polyester? You can use cotton blends, but the color will not be as vibrant as 100% natural fibers like cotton, silk and rayon.
Do you mix tie-dye with hot or cold water?
You should add lukewarm water to your bottles when preparing your dye solutions. Adding water that’s too cold can make it hard for the dye powder to dissolve. Adding water that’s too hot can make the dye react with the water, exhausting the dye before it reaches the fabric.
Can you reuse leftover tie-dye?
Unless you can refrigerate your dyes, I recommend that you mix only as much as you can use up within a week or two. If you are storing the dyes in an unairconditioned space during the summer, mix the dye powders with water no more than one or two days before use.
How do you keep tie-dye from bleeding white?
Try soaking your tie dye in equal parts white vinegar and cold water for 30 minutes after you initially rinse out the dye from your garment. The vinegar helps with colorfastness. After the first couple washes, wash tie dye in cold water to prevent dye from fading.
