– Clear coat can be applied over existing clear coat, as long as it is good condition. If old clear coat is de-laminating, or otherwise damaged, it is best to remove it all and start over with a base coat. Urethane clears bond to the base coat while it is still drying.
Can you spray clear coat over dry clear coat?
As I mentioned before, you can paint over a clear coat, but to paint, you must sand off some of the clear coating first. In the case of spraying base coat over clear coat, there is little paint adhered to the surface, so it will end up looking rough.
Can you spray top coat over clear coat?

What do you do after clear coat?
If you have recently applied clear coat to a paint job, it’s time to buff it out to a high shine. Clear coat should be allowed to harden for at least 24 hours before attempting to use a buffer. In most cases, you will be trying to remove “orange peel” when buffing a new paint job.
Can I sand and reapply clear coat?
